The Institute Carnot LISA (Lipids for Industry, SAfety and health) is a novel alliance of public and private skills and knowledge, from academia and from industry. The Institute Carnot LISA comprises of a French consortium consisting of ITERG (French Institute for Fats and Oils), IMBL (Institute for Multidisciplinary Biochemistry of Lipids) and PRES “University of Bordeaux”.
The Institute Carnot LISA has been specifically designed and created to bring together like-minded scientists with the aim of adding value in research in the field of lipids, in line with the objectives of the French public authorities involved in creating the Carnot label.
The Institute Carnot LISA has a wide interdisciplinary scientific range addressing chemistry, biochemistry, physics and biology.
The three themes (see below) that the Institute Carnot LISA specialises in examine scientific and technological challenges, in line with important political and social issues.
Concerning this last sector, action is already underway with the creation of a CEDOP platform: a European Research and Development Centre for the industrial-scale production of bioproducts and green chemistry processes.
The depletion of fossil resources has created huge changes within the chemical industry. To manufacture not only fuels, but common consumer products such as paints, detergents, lubricants, inks, and the intermediaries for medicine synthesis, renewable carbon substrate sources must gradually replace oil, gas, or coal.
In this context, raw materials resulting from agricultural production are therefore precious resources.
The CEDOP platform will transfer adapted technologies from laboratory-scale to pilot-scale production, and then to industrial pre-productions for wide-scale and/or test market formulation testing, in addition to developing new processes and bioproducts.
The examples and uses of bioproducts are numerous: biosolvants, biosurfactants, biolubricants, biopolymers and cosmetics.
Institute Carnot LISA enables all the necessary steps to be made, in order to obtain a successful research/development/innovation from the initial idea to the marketplace.
