Quickly it has established itself as one of the most dynamic and innovative national universities. It has about 14,700 students in attendance, 2,132 teaching staff, and offers a variety of 50 graduation courses, over 40 Masters courses and 25 PhD programs. Science and Technology, Engineering, Education and Humanities, Health Sciences, Communications, Arts and Design, Management, Accounting and Economics, and Environment and Planning are the key scientific areas of the university.

UA is a place for research, where innovative products and solutions are developed to contribute to the advance of science and technology. It is a privileged partner for companies and other national and international organisations with which it co-operates in numerous projects and for which it provides important services. The Unit of Technology Transfer – UATEC – helps meeting these goals. Its mission is to support the University of Aveiro to be a national excellence center of knowledge creation and dissemination, through the promotion of its technologies in the business sector. It operates by carefully identifying industrial needs, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting technology-based company’s creation, fostering, therefore, the social-economic development of its region, by making it competitive at an international level.
