Innovative Academia, Government and Transport Industry Cooperation in Lithuania - Your link to research, innovation and business

Under globalisation the opportunities for any mode of transport to compete for a larger extent of transport services are limited. The response to these structural challenges should be new ways of organising the transport system, in closer and more effective cooperation between various modes of transport as well as transport research and business companies. The perception of the value-added interaction of various structures encouraged researchers in Lithuania to institutionalise the innovative cooperation base where representatives of academia, government and transport industry could more actively and effectively improve the national transport system. Such an innovative structure, the VGTU Competence Center for Intermodal Transport and Logistics (CCITL) in Lithuania, was created in 2007.

The activity of CCITL is based on the notion that the transport system is one of the most important factors predetermining the success of our state and the rates of its consolidation in Europe, as well as the progress of its economy and the living standards of the population. In order to maintain the Lithuanian transport system, scientists and experts in various spheres are permanently improving and extending the system.

The main research and activity objectives of CCITL are orientated towards the strengthening of intermodality of the Lithuanian transport system, emphasising intermodality as of fundamental significance for developing competitive transport modes. Therefore CCITL’s task is to ensure fuller integration of the modes offering considerable potential transport capacity as links in an efficiently managed transport chain joining up all the individual services. The priority is placed on conceptual harmonization and interoperability between different modes and different implementation levels.

CCITL is the main administrative organ of LithuanianIntermodal Transport Technology Platform.
