Reykjavík University (RU) is a vibrant international university located at the heart of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland.
It is Iceland’s second largest university with over 3,000 students and over 300 employees. Our focus is on research, excellence in teaching, entrepreneurship, technology development and co-operation with the active business community. We educate students to become international researchers, leaders in business, technology and society at large, starting new companies and creating jobs.

Academic programmes at RU are based on internationally recognised models, and are continually under review and improvement. The studies at all of RU’s Schools are progressive and alert to practices at elite universities. The school’s curriculum is constantly evolving and approximately 700 courses per year are currently offered; over 500 at the undergraduate level and 160 at the graduate level, all of which fully take into account the needs of both students and the economy.
School of Business – The School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programmes in international business, accounting and auditing, and finance. Furthermore, the School offers an intensive MBA programme which is a general management and business programme at the graduate level intended for individuals with an undergraduate degree or considerable work experience who wish to strengthen their management and leadership skills.
School of Health and Education – In the School of Health and Education, emphasis is placed on strengthening mathematics and science education in Iceland and, furthermore, on creating a unique position for RU among universities in Iceland by integrating mathematics education and active teaching methods in that area with the studies conducted in all of RU’s Schools. The School of Health and Education also offers studies in sports science, psychology and a master’s programme in public health education.
School of Science and Engineering – The School of Science and Engineering is the largest of its kind in Iceland and offers diverse courses of study in relevant areas in addition to preliminary studies. Students at the School can choose from, for example, technology studies, industrial studies, biomedical engineering, industrial engineering, engineering management, and financial engineering.
School of Computer Science – The School of Computer Science (SCS) at RU collaborates actively with international universities and institutions, both in teaching and research. Moreover, SCS collaborates with the local industry, eg in the form of final projects. Thus, students from our programme are well prepared for work in industry or further study in graduate programmes. The School focuses on research and education in computer science, software engineering and mathematics.
School of Law – The School of Law offers ambitious and modern undergraduate and graduate programmes in legal studies with the aim of graduating outstanding lawyers who are capable of becoming leaders in their fields. One of the main characteristics of graduate studies at the School of Law is the diverse choice of emphases and courses of study. This provides students with the opportunity to specialise within the legal profession and to integrate their studies with other disciplines.
In addition, RU´s Open University offers a range of programmes for the business community as well as offering life-long learning opportunities for individuals and companies. An emphasis is placed on effective and efficient teaching methods. More than 400 courses are listed in the course catalogue of the Open University, and more than 200 instructors are involved in teaching – these are academics from RU, instructors from international partner universities, as well as specialists from the Icelandic business community.
